Attic Windows Open Or Closed

Two schools of thought on this running the fan window closed will draw air from the rest of the house if it is open to it which may be a benefit otherwise if you have a heat reservoir in the attic and you simply want to replace the air with cooler air do this at night you open the window as far away as possible from the fan outlet.

I have my windows opened and my sister in law came over. They have triple pane storm windows over them so i left the screen window down and have both windows open a crack to get air circulating in the attic. When the attic becomes part of the home to be heated and cooled open wall gable vents and roof vents are no longer feasible but the underside of the roof the sheathing and rafters can still. They are on the front and back of the house.

We have a large full attic. I even built a screen to go over the entire window on the inside of the attic just to make doubly sure no birds or animals poked through the window screen. During the summer and most of fall we keep 2 windows open for cross ventilation. In the late evening or early morning the fan is turned on to exhaust hot air from the house.

We do get bugs flies in the summer ladybugs in the fall. Your attic acts as an insulation between the terrace and the living room. 2 are ornamental and the other 4 are regular functioning windows. Open your windows before you turn on the fan.

I think you should do the reverse one. 6 windows in all. A whole house fan is usually installed on the attic floor near the center of your house. Cooler outdoor air enters through open windows lowering the indoor temperature.

This insulation is penetrated if you open u. This insulation resists the heat from the terrace to pass it directly to the living room. We leave our windows open all summer as well but i just closed them yesterday when it got cold. After leaving the attic window open overnight it was amazing how cool it got in there.

In the summer i open them. My parents had two small windows in their attic. My question is that in the winter should they be left open or should they be closed. I have windows at either end of the attic.

Sat oct 27 2007 2 19 pm if you have functioning ridge and soffit vents you won t need to leave those windows open. It gets stifling and stale up there if we don t. The windows have screens. During the summer they would open the windows to let the heat out and have cross ventilation.

The house that i live in also has windows in the attic which are my dormers. My home has a whole house fan installed in the upstairs hallway ceiling when its cool at night that thing can suck the heat out of the house in record time.
